Professional Development 2016

28th May 2016
SLANZA ' The Librarian as Mentor'

Held at Boys High.  A group of librarians from the Waikato area talking about how we mentor students.  Particularly interesting to hear what other schools are doing in the library at the primary and secondary level.

5 May 2016
Visited Fairfield Primary to observe their Rainbow Reading Programme.  Trying to put in place some intervention programmes for the children one year behind in their reading.
Rainbow Reading looks good but very expensive to run.
Will need to use a cheaper alternative.  Maybe using what we have here in the school.

12 May 2016
Hamilton Boys High School.
To observe the Steps to Literacy programme and see if it is something that would work for our children with dyslexic tendencies.   The lowest Year 9s use this programme very successfully.  The boys really enjoy the challenge of getting bronze, silver or gold medals.
Could work in our school.  The cost is $15.00 a year.

21 June 2016
The Learning Staircase Ltd
Attend a course for Steps Stage 1. I then set up Steps Web at school running from the library.  There are 15 children on the programme.  They go on line for the programme for 15-20 minutes a day.  All children have a session with me in the library for 45 minutes a week.
